British Vogue‘s new editor Edward Enninful is among the global fashion industry figures who will receive honorary awards at the 2018 CFDA Awards in New York.
Enninful who took over at the helm of British Vogue last summer will receive the Media Award in honour of legendary American fashion writer Eugenia Sheppard.
His career in fashion publishing began when he was appointed fashion director at i-D at the age of just 19 before going on to work at Italian Vogue, American Vogue and W Magazine. He took over at British Vogue from long-time editor Alexandra Shulman who stood down last year after 25 years.
“I’m very happy and honoured to receive this award from the CFDA. Thank you to my team at British Vogue,” said Enninful, who was also awarded an OBE for services to fashion in 2016.
Other honourees include Donatella Versace, who will receive the International Award, Narciso Rodriguez, who will receive the Geoffrey Beene Award for Lifetime Achievement, and Carolina Herrara who will receive the Founder’s Award in honour of Eleanor Lambert the famed fashion publicist who founded the International Best Dressed List and the CFDA.
Diane von Furstenberg will be honoured with the Swarovksi Award for Positive Change in recognition for her work in women’s empowerment.
The winners of the remaining awards covering menswear, womenswear, accessories designer and emerging talent will be announced at the ceremony which takes place on 4 June at the Brooklyn Museum, hosted by actress Issa Rae.
Among the nominees are Off White’s Virgil Abloh, James Jebbia for Supreme, Stuart Vevers for Coach, Raf Simons for Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen for The Row.
“The 2018 CFDA Fashion Awards continue to honor those who have led the American fashion industry, and this year, we welcome designers who approach fashion in new ways,” said Steven Kolb, President and CEO of the CFDA.
