Maureen Chiquet, the former CEO of Chanel, has joined the board of Matchesfashion.com as non-executive director.
Chiquet had been the global CEO of Chanel from 2007 to 2016 (she joined the business in 2003 having previously been with Gap and Old Navy), where she was credited with modernising the house and increasing its youth appeal, the Business of Fashion reports.
Her arrival at Matchesfashion.com, along with Autotrader CEO Trevor Mather who has also taken a seat on the board, comes a year after the London-based business was acquired by private equity house Apax Partners in a deal valuing it at around £800m.
Following the deal CEO Ulric Jerome stayed with the business and founders Tom and Ruth Chapman stepped back to take on an advisory role.
In its most recently published accounts Matchesfashion.com achieved sales up 44% to £293m in the year to 31 January 2018 with an EBITDA of £26m, up 37%.
As well as innovating with its online business and building infrastructure to support it, such as a new creative hub in East London, Matchesfashion.com has also augmented its bricks and mortar offer. In September it opened its highly anticipated 5 Carlos Place townhouse in London’s Mayfair, which is part retail experience, part showroom, part event space and part cafe.
