Scottish Fashion Awards unveils 2016 shortlist
The Scottish Fashion Awards, now in its 11th year, has unveiled its shortlist today with international names such as Christopher Kane, Holly Fulton, Cathal McAteer, Kestin Hare and Patrick Grant all receiving a nod.
Taking place on 21 October at London's Rosewood Hotel, the black-tie gala event recognises talent in a range of categories from Scottish Designer of the Year to Luxury Retailer of the Year and International Designer of the Year, which this time includes stellar names such as Victoria Beckham, Miuccia Prada, Gucci, Calvin Klein and Balenciaga on the shortlist.
The ceremony, which takes the theme of a "Highland Gathering", will be co-hosted by founder of the event and its chairman Dr Tessa Hartmann CBE and The Rt Hon David Mundell MP, Secretary of State for Scotland. It will be compered by TV presenter and journalist Jean Johansson, who is a reporter on BBC's The One Show, and an after party will be held at Mayfair club Tramp.
"Our job is to provide an international showcase of the wealth of talent that hails from Scotland – this is therefore the most definitive list of Scotland’s top fashion, design, creative and indeed textile talent," said Hartmann of the list of nominees.
"Our mills and manufacturers are working for some of the biggest fashion houses in the world, our young designers are showcasing at Paris Fashion Week and our retail innovators are breaking boundaries and opening flagship stores across the nation. It’s so important that we continue to share these stories and provide that all important platform to allow them to extend their global reach and that’s certainly worth celebrating!” Hartmann, who this year was awarded the CBE in recognition for her contribution to the industry in Queen's 90th Birthday Honours List.
Winners will now be chosen by a judging panel which includes: Colin McDowell MBE, Jigsaw CEO Peter Ruis, ASOS Womenswear Design Director Vanessa Spence, Justine Picardie Editor-in-Chief of Harpers Bazaar, Trish Halpin Editor-in-Chief of Marie-Claire, Anna Murphy Fashion Director of The Times, Sara Maino, Head of New Talent & Senior Fashion Editor of Vogue Italia, Mickey Boardman Editorial Director of Paper Magazine New York and Lauretta Roberts Editor-in-Chief The Industry.
