Trussardi: MFW AW16 Menswear Review

David Watts
21 January 2016

Trussardi began its journey in the footsteps of musicians, notably buskers for AW16.  Music was the cornerstone and the influences were Lennon, Page, Weller and Townshend which highlighted rock royalty of the 70s, the recurring theme for many collections in Milan this season.

For creative director, Gaia Trussardi, the sense of style needs to be more inclusive, and open itself up to modernity, blending haute with music and pop culture. Buskers are street musicians who set out in the world to play their music, without barriers or safety nets and Trussardi tapped into the spirit of this for AW16.

The collection featured corduroy with tweed and Prince of Wales checked effect, micro-prints used on vests and shirts.  The palette is warm brown, gray, ochre, blue and clay. The key accessory is an oversized bucket bag with fleece panel.

Gaia Trussardi wanted us to go on a journey with the collection and to that end presented a small ensemble of young musicians (not models) although very model looking, chosen by the designer herself in a series of auditions. Set in the galleries of the Brera Pinoteca, an 18th century Palazzo, they played a series of classic rock tracks set against a backdrop of beautiful religious old masters which was an interesting juxtaposition to haute fashion and busking!
